Today,the educational settings have been incorporated the emergingtechnologies. Counseling Self-efficacy is a belief or judgment of anindividual’s capability to counsel a client effectively. Theprimary aim of this study is to assess the differences in counselingself-efficacy that exist between online counseling and class-basedcounseling graduate degree programs.
Operationaldefinition of self-efficacy
Self-efficacycontributes to the determination of learning tasks. It is a conceptthat focuses on an individual’s capability to utilize their fullpotential to produce given levels of performance. Self-efficacy isinfluenced by self-confidence, control and responsibility. Peoplewith a strong sense of efficacy are highly assured of theircapability when approaching challenging tasks (Bandura, 1997).
Surveyto measure the self-efficacy
Itemsused in this survey were measured on a scale ranging from 0-10. Where0 means that the students do not have the ability to do this and 10means that the student can definitely do this.  Items include:
I believe I can organize my activities so as to meet all the classes requirements
I am confident that I can remember almost all the key concepts after the lesson ends.
I find it easy to understand almost all the concepts taught in my course.
I have the capability to explain to fellow students about the key concepts taught in the classroom
I can get help from the teacher and ask some question for the sake of clarification
I can effectively incorporate knowledge learned from lessons to complete new tasks
I can get another student to help me with the explanation incase I miss a lesson
I can communicate with the teachers effectively about my concerns
I am certain that I can use the current research findings to deal with certain problems
I can easily access both personal and career development resources
Theitems used in this study demonstrate the extent to which interactionand self-efficacy correlate with the satisfaction of the student.Using these items the level of interaction and self-efficacy can be established. They help to identify information andthe level of education achievement of students regarding knowledge,comprehension, analysis, synthesis and evaluation (Bandura,1997).
Methodof data collection and data analysis
Theparticipants were recruited from a random sample of 100 students fromcounseling graduate degree programs in their last year of study. Thefinal sample size consisted of 50 men and 50 women. The participantscompleted the CounselingSelf-Estimate Inventory (COSE)consisting of 10 self-report items. Most of these items worded withthe statement “I” required them to rate the degree to which theyestimate the counseling sessions. To make a comparison of the meandifferences in the scores, an analysis of covariance was computed.The result of this analysis demonstrates that students enrolled inonline courses reported a stronger counseling self-efficacy beliefscompared to those who trained in the traditional class-basedcounseling graduate degree programs (Chester & Glass, 2006).
Constructinga survey is an art that requires numerous decisions such as content,format placement and wording that have crucial consequences for theentire study. However, the main challenge facing a survey of thisnature is sample representativeness. Finding and recruiting theparticipants was a difficult task. For example, the respondentsinvolved in the study were already participating in onlineactivities, and thus may not have represented those who strictlyprefer land-based counseling graduate degree programs (Schwarzer,1992).
