My experience in assessing and managing apediatric who presented with an attention deficit hyperactivedisorder was overwhelming since it assisted me in learning new thingssuch as counseling techniques. Also, the experience gave me anopportunity to assess precisely and diagnose the condition which mademe feel a kind of satisfaction as I was able to utilize my knowledgeand skills to the fullest.

My “aha” moment was when I managed to discoversome presenting features of the disorder through careful analysis andphysical examination, most importantly I was able to identify ticswhich were sudden, dull moments and sounds that the child presentedon examination. Another “aha” moment occurred when I introducedthe child with a stimulant which reversed the condition into anaverage level of functioning ( Kliegman &amp Nelson, 2016).

In class, I had learnt that stimulants play asignificant role in raising the levels of dopamine andnor-epinephrine in the brain and them plaid a role in attention andthinking, I had an opportunity to observe the transition fromhyperactivity to a standard presentation after the administration ofthe stimulant which relaxed the child (Efronet.al, 2015).

The experience connected my classroom studies tothe real world pediatrics clinical setting as I was able to put thetheoretical knowledge that I learnt in class into practice. Also, thepresenting features of individuals with the disorder are real andthrough careful analysis, I managed to discover most of them. Also,we had learnt about carrying out a physical examination which I didand to my surprise I managed to identify some features, throughobservation of the child’s behavior, I managed to discover thehyperactivity in the child as well as high periods of inattention.
