The Chinese tour guides also offerother services during the tour programs. Additionally, the companyengages in the provision of auto services, such as taxis services andairport shuttle bus. They also provide accommodation and transportservices, for example, flights and hotels, at affordable prices(Sunshine-transit, 2015)

The company has one direct competitor, another Chinese TourismCompany, which is called the Piyao International Tours, located inHalifax. This company has similar services to the SunshineInternational Tours, Atlantic region tour programs, airport shuttlebuses and booking flights and hotels (Piyao International Tours,2015). Both customers have the same customers, the Chinese.

Understanding the Marketing Assistant Position

It is my second time working in the marketing assistant position. Inmy opinion, working as a marketing assistant is more challenging thanworking in other positions. This is because one is required todevelop his or her communication, problem-solving, research, andsummarizing skills, in this position. Regarding this, I think thesemarketing skills and abilities will directly affect my career in thenext 5 to 7 years.

As I said initially in the co-op report, I would like to operate myown marketing business when I would be contented with enoughexperience and resources. To reach my career goal, I need to improvemyself during the next 5 to 7 years, and thus working as themarketing assistant is a good chance to develop my abilities and gainwider experiences. For example, when I was working for SunshineInternational Tours, I needed to work with my colleagues having groupmeetings to discuss new tourism routes and how to promotion ourproducts to the market.

Teamwork lets us work more efficient and solve problems more quickly. Also, this skill will be useful in my future career. Working in thetourism company, I meet many kinds of customers so that goodcommunication can let customers recognize our company`s consistentexcellence and always prefer to buy our products. Therefore, I shouldbe in a better position to control my communication skills in a moreskillful manner. Additionally, the ability improved my writing skillsworking as a marketing assistant in the tourism company will requirethat I learn how to create market analysis reports to ease myoperations while in the field meeting clients.

In the future, when I will have my business, the above marketingskills and abilities would be important in my business operations. And since these skills I will have already learned during the co-opterm, I will be able to apply them to organize work-related businessmarketing operations more clearly and efficiently. For example, teamwork, communication, and writing skills will be my main skillssets I will need in the next 7 years, which will prove useful inbusiness operations, and, in turn, a wider experience in my businessgoals.

Career Plan Research: Industry Analysis and Industry Description

In the next five to seven year, I would like to be employed andrelates to the Photography Services industry.

&quotThis industry comprises establishments primarily engaged inproviding still, video or computer photography services, includingthe videotaping of special events. These establishments mayspecialize in a particular field of photography, such as aerialphotography, commercial and industrial photography, portraitphotography and special event photography. Example Activities: Aerialphotography services (i.e., photographers specializing in aerialphotography, except map making) Commercial photography servicesMedical photography services Passport photography servicesPhotography Studios School photography (i.e., portrait photography)services Video photography services, portrait Videotaping servicesfor special events Videotaping services for weddings Wedding andportrait photography services&quot (Statistics Canada, 2015).

This industry contains 1,531 employers and 5,735non-employers/indeterminate in Canada, and Nova Scotia has 37employees and 91 non-employers/indeterminate in Nova Scotia(Statistics Canada, 2015). The whole industry (Reliability) totalrevenue is 127,000 CAD per year and Net profit is 35,800 CAD peryear. But I want to focus on the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Photography(UAV) because this is a new area in Photography industry. In myopinion, UAV Photography (Aerial drone photography) has a gooddevelopment potential, because its novelty and have betterperformance in growth rate than traditional photography method.

Trends Impacting the Industry

  1. Political Trends

Today, photography services industry develops rapidly because themass media has become one of the important parts of our daily life.Again, the modern wedding photography has created higher demand fromthe consumers. Using the UAV into modern wedding photography, proposal plan and commercial use are a new area of developingmarketing interest. However, this industry has some uncertainfactors, such as the UAV and pilot license, and currently, no singlecountry in the world have the policy to control the UAV or drone. TheFederal Aviation Administration only announced an Unmanned AircraftSystems(USA) Registration to record the unmanned aircraft in theUnited States (Federal Aviation Administration, 2015). Again, Chinawill announce UAV regulations the following year. Therefore, the UAVphotography has become an example of a normal artistic expression andregulated by law. Therefore, operating a quadcopter should haveoperating license and pilot license. The purpose of the regulation isto make sure this new technology is developing on the right path.

The photography services industry is developing well in China becauseChina unveils ‘Internet Plus` action plan to fuel growth. &quotTheaction plan will integrate mobile Internet, cloud computing, big dataand the Internet of things with modern manufacturing, to encouragethe healthy development of e-commerce, industrial networks, andInternet banking, and to help Internet companies increase theirinternational presence, Li said. According to the action plan, Chinawill push forward the integration of the Internet and traditionalindustries, fueling its expansion from consumption industries tomanufacturing.&quot (The People`s Republic of China, 2015) Accordingto the ‘Internet Plus`, the conventional industries need to movesonline, defamation and diversified development (China CommercialPhotography industry development report, 2015). Therefore,Photography Services industry is in the transition stage. In thefuture, the O2O (Online 2 Offline) commerce model will occupy moreand more market share.

ii. Economic Trends

In consequence the global economic downturn, the employment situationis grim and people income level slowdown these factors depress thepurchasing power of consumers (China Commercial Photography IndustryDevelopment Report, 2015). In general, Photography Services industryis not having a significant affected by economic changes, becausePhotography Services has become a rigid demand from consumers.

According to the Nova Scotia Government website, new small businesswill gain a tax deduction. This deduction effectively eliminates theNova Scotia corporate income tax for the first 3 taxation years of anew small business after incorporation. The corporation must applyeach year to the Nova Scotia Minister of Finance and Treasury Boardfor a Nova Scotia Tax Deduction Eligibility Certificate (Nova ScotiaFinance Department, 2015). Also in China, the government has a taxdeduction and micro-credit loan to the university studententrepreneurial. The Chinese Government (2015) encourages universitystudent to embrace the entrepreneurial spirit.

The tax deduction policy and micro-credit loan are a good opportunityfor the small business and student entrepreneurial journey. InCalifornia, United States, some of the services are not taxed for thephotography industry. Such as electronic transfers of photographs, repair labor, sales for resale, sales in interstate and foreigncommerce, sales to the U.S. government, and certain othertransactions (California State Board of Equalization, 2014). Thispolicy mentioned that &quottax applies to your sale of tangible, physical products, including photographs.

However, if one transfers a photograph electronically and does notinclude any physical product on your sale, tax does not apply. Thisis true whether you transfer a photograph by the ‘load and leave`method described below or remotely (for example, by email or filetransfer protocol [FTP])&quot (California State Board ofEqualization, 2014). This is a human-oriented policy that can helpthis industry transition to O2O commerce model. Therefore, photography services can keep up with the developmental paceregarding time in the global industry.

iii. Social Trends

In the 21st Century, people`s lifestyle has been altered a lot ofpeople are determined to remain with the good memories regardingimportant events as weddings, birthday parties, and would require aproposal, for instance. Again, most companies want to hire aphotography services company to record their development andpromotion themselves. This is a social trend in the photographyindustry (China Commercial Photography Industry Development Deport,2015)

Again, in some regions, the photography services are different, forexample, the early stages of the photography services industry inChina should be the main source of revenue coming from the portraitphotography. In China, the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) is atime for family reunions, feasts, and national celebration. Afterthat day, all the family members will be in a position to go to aphotographic studio to have a family photo (Xinhua, 2015). However,North America does not have this kind of tradition and servicerequired.

This is a regional habit that affects this industry, so that if I amworking in this industry in China or Canada, I need to consider thedifferent situation in different regions. Also, the above questionreflects the consumer in different regions have different buyingpattern and purchase intention. In an age that values innovation,Photography Services industry had a rapid development. Therefore, innovation is a social trend. Additionally, the UAV photography(aerial drone photography) is an emerging market, and thus, thephotography services industry need to catch the opportunity todevelop in innovation and does it better.

iv. Technological Trends

The photography services industry is based on the technology –photographic equipment. Another world is the development of thisindustry is dependent on the technology. For example, the UAVPhotography (Drone aerial photography) is based on the quadcopter. The quadcopter also called a quadrotor helicopter or quadrotor is amultirotor helicopter that is lifted and propelled by four rotors(Graham, 2014). Most of the photography studios using the DJI`sproduct will have to have their flight control system and goodquality of the product. Also for the camera, the main purpose of thephotography services is creating wonderful photo to the customer.Professional photographic equipment is very important the digitalcameras company will be launching a new product every year to updateand add new technology to their cameras portfolio.

The photography services industry depend on the technology company, such as DJI, Nikon, Canon, Sony, and software company Adobe(Photoshop, etc.), so these companies technology development aredirectly related to the photography services industry. And also,Photography Services industry needs to have more extensiveinternational dialogue and collaboration on development.

Career Path Research

I choose the photography services industry because of my interest inphotography. Also, I would like to operate my own business after Ihave had enough experience to operate and manage a company.

In the first two or three years, I want to work in a photographycompany or a large media company. First, my major is Finance thatcan help me work in this industry to gain experience with basicworking concepts. Secondly, to created good work habits, help metransition the university lifestyle to a busy lifestyle. Also, Iwould like to apply for a job as a marketing analysis specialist, because I had already worked in this position before. A marketinganalysis specialist requires one to have diverse knowledge in financeto be in a better position to carry out analysis of marketing data, writing skill to prepare reports and research papers, and develop aportfolio of marketing the materials. Also, it requires that one candesign, conduct and analyze quantitative and qualitative researchprojects (Job, 2015).

In these changing times in the industry, this job requires that thecandidate can conduct online marketing and E-commerce and carry outwebsite promotions, for example, to design, operating an online storeand promotion product online. Therefore, it demands that I learn andacquire more information about the online marketing experience andknowledge. Again, there is a need to have design skills andorganizing ability. Overall, the requirements needed for this job arethat I should have good writing, communication, teamwork,problem-solving, job task planning and organizing, findinginformation, computer use and continuous learning skills (Job, 2015).

The estimated compensation/salary for this position is about 35,000CAD per year and is accompanied by a vacation (Individuals by totalincome level, province, and territory (Canadian Industry Statistics,2015). After this job, I want to get a promotion to do some workrelated to management, for example, the marketing director. Tocompete for a managerial position, I need to have well-organized anddirect operations skills to oversee the classification and rating ofoccupations, development and implement recruitment strategies andoversee the analysis of employee data and information (MarketingDirector, 2015). These skills support the manager to oversee his orher subordinates. In my opinion, a good manager knows the kind ofwork that requires being devolved to his or her subordinates and thathe or she can handle.

Therefore, the manager should have adamant organizing skills andability coupled with excellent oral communication skills to talk withcustomers and handle questions with his or her colleagues. Also, itis important to note that decision-making skills are critical for agood manager because a decision make is a key to success or defeat.Even a general manager may already have a lot of experience andknowledge but would still need continuous learning to sharpening hisor her skills since an old Chinese saying, &quotnever too old tolearn.&quot For the estimated compensation/salary for the position Iwould like to have is around 45,000 CAD per year and have holidayedfor vacation. (Individuals by total income level, by province andterritory (Canadian Industry Statistics, 2015).

Summary of Informational Interview

I learned a lot from the interview, and I realized that it is noteasy to work as a manager. My supervisor was Mrs. Renyu Qi, while inthe first co-op term in CFSS Inc. I interviewed her when I back toChina in December 2015. After the interview, I got a lot ofinformation that will assist me in plotting out my career. First, theexperience is important to getting a promotion to become a manager. Therefore, I need to acquire more knowledge and experience from mydaily work. For example, I will try to take on additionalassignments, help coworkers meet their deadlines, and volunteer forincreasingly challenging assignments.

Also, I am planning to go back to China when I finish my universityto be able to build new networks or relationships with new coworkersand consumers. To become a manager or to operate my own business, Ineed to overcome all the obstacles on my way and the pressure thatcomes with it. To overcome pressure is the key to success. During theinterview, what I remember most was Mrs. Renyu Qi said she has lotsof mentors she thought &quoteveryone can be my mentor.&quot I needto learn from her how to develop self-evaluation, and thus improve myskills. I benefited much from this interview it is like a lesson forme to acquire working experience.

Interview Section: Interview questions and verbatim responses

  1. What skills, competencies, further education / training, designations, or other prerequisites are required to fulfill your role?

First of all, I’m a manager in this company, and therefore I haveenough experience and ability to lead the company in the rightdirection. As the manger, I am confident to say that project, timeand people management are three major attributes and skills that amanger must have. Project management skills let the manager usinglimited resource to reach the goal or above the goal. Proper timemanagement allows the manger to comprehensively devolve the entiretask to subordinate and make sure all the work finished on time. Thepurpose of people management, in my opinion, is to ensure that unitywithin the company is upheld and with good cohesion. Old Chinese saythat: “Never too old to learn.” Having a MBA is good to improvemy learning and development in having advanced management experience.

  1. Are there specific networks or associations that one should belong to in order to fulfill your role?

I amnot well-familiar with work in Canada, but in China, it is verydifficult to do business without having networks, and thus I’d sayhaving better communication skills is crucially important. Again, sometime we need to pay a visit to our customers to exercise ouroutgoing personality.

  1. What do you like best / love about your job?

Ilike my job because I am able to challenge myself to reach the goaland bring profit to the company. Also, I am able to learn a lot frommy work, because I encounter problems everyday and I need to find away to solve it. And I think this is a good position to improvemyself.

  1. What do you like least about your job?

Ithink it is pressure. To be a manager mean you have to handle all thestuff from the work, and to solve the problem. You need to care abouthow to gain more profit, how to administer workforce and how tomanage interpersonal relationships.

  1. Did you have a mentor? If so, how did it help you? Would you recommend a mentor for others pursuing your role? Would you consider being a mentor yourself?

Yes,I have lots of mentors. In my opinion, everyone can be my mentorsince everyone has their own thinking and some of that are veryvaluable. But when I was in my first job, my superior at the time wasmy first mentor. You can imagine that when I in my first job, I don’tknow everything, for real. I am now able to interact with thesociety, since I was always shy to face people, let alone to visitcustomers. My superior instead of getting angry would encourage me.And after that, he teaches me how to do the work and how to improvemyself.

  1. What would you do differently if you could start your career over again?

Donot simply resolve to do something, think over it careful beforejumping to the opportunity.

  1. Is work / life balance suitable for / possible in this job?

Idon’t think so. I always do other things after my work time. I hopeI can have an assistant to share the pressure that I can have moretime with my family.

  1. Is this job as you expected when you thought or planned your career at university?

WhenI was in university, my career goal was simple. That is, I was tofind a job that can maintain my life, whatever the job. So, I amcontented with my life at the moment, but one thing I need to spendmore time with my family.

  1. How would you do if you feel working pressure?

Thatis what I said before I can feel lots of pressure from my work. ButI think this is very normal. Adjusting myself, for example talk withfriends or doing some physical exercises. It is very important tolearn how to relax yourself and take exercises to release thepressure.

  1. Do you have any other advice for me or future incumbents of this role?

Youare still young and energetic. You should do more practice, and be amaster in your own craft in no time and enjoy the benefits later. Also, never stop learn, keep going, and continue working hard. Dated10th December 2015
