Amongteenagers, favor for short-term pleasures over long-term pleasures iscommon. This behavior is usually characterized with, theseadolescents acting impulsively (Schneider,2008).However, for those teens with combined-type ADHD orhyperactive-impulsive, they face a significant challenge incontrolling their impulsiveness this is despite their awareness thattheir behaviors are potentially harmful to them. Even thoughadolescents are known to act first and think later, those sufferingfrom this unusual aspect of ADHD have adverse cases and even theirimpulsiveness can cause harm to the individual. It is, therefore,vital for the young adults to have special attention during thisduration.

Accordingto Kirk J. Schneider (2008), such adolescents can be helped thoughexistential-integrative therapy. This involves the use of a range oftherapeutic concepts and methods in helping the teenagers tounderstand and fully engage with their experiences. These approachesinclude cognitive-behavioral, psychopharmacological, andinterpersonal. Existential-Integrative (EI) therapy involve atherapist and the client exploiting what it means to live at thatprecise moment overcoming all the awe, anxieties, the freedoms andthe limitations of their presence in the world. This insinuates thatadolescents may be faced with many queries of whom they are and henceturn to finding out their identity.

Adolescentsare usually faced by “death” of their childhood. It, therefore,means that they cannot put on with certain childhood behaviors. As aresult, they are faced with challenges of making life changingdecisions. By including EI therapy in the teenagers, it allows themto explore the expectancies of life and, in turn, equipping them withthe necessary skills needed to make better choices in life(Schneider,2008).Since existential concerns are most worries in teens, it is importantto help them learn how to navigate through them. This would be muchbetter when done at an earlier age in the preparation of children’ssmooth transit to adulthood with more awareness and empowerment toovercome the anxieties of identifying the new identity.
