Enterprisearchitecture is an intellectual blueprint applied in the definitionof the operation and structure of an organization. It aims todetermine how an organization can achieve its current and futureobjectives efficiently, timely, and effectively. The architecture hasan application, business, and information perspectives(Blokdijk, 2014).The application perspective explains the interaction between severalstandards and processes by the organization. Business perspectiverecognizes the rules and processes by which the business functionsdaily. The information perspective gives definition and groups theorganization’s raw data like presentations, document filedatabases, and spreadsheets required by the organization to operatewell. Technology perspective entails the hardware, programming, networking systems, and operating systems used in the organization.
Enterprisearchitecture improves decision making hence makes it easy for anorganization to adjust to the changing market conditions and demands(Lankhorst, 2013).It helps in the elimination of redundant and inefficient processeshence it use its assets efficiently to its advantage. It is astrategic planning process that helps convert business strategy andvision into an effective change for the enterprise. It helps in theachievement of an organization’s objectives.
Theenterprise architecture program helps the Department of MotorVehicles (DMV) because it works with many stakeholders to define thevision of the organization as pertains the organizational principles, requirements, and models (Schekkerman,2012).The Department of Motor Vehicle requires a comprehensive integratedConsistentStrategic Improvement (CSI) solution which is service oriented andcustomer centered. The ConsistentStrategic Improvement solutionshould be intelligent and secure to support the reengineered businessprocedures.
ConsistentStrategic Improvement will re-engineer the business to meet processesrelated to tax processing, credentialing, and financial management.Organization’s productivity and efficiency will be enhanced throughthe use of new technology and reengineering business services modeland improving the processes of the business(Blokdijk,2014).The enterprise architecture team will work with the stakeholders toidentify the needs of the business and technological needs.
Enterprisearchitecture program involves several phases that Departmentof Motor Vehiclesshould follow when developing a new ConsistentStrategic Improvementsolution to achieve the objectives of the organization. First, planning and strategizing should be done to identify the current andfuture of the organization (Schekkerman, 2012). Secondly, the stateof the organization is assessed, and the team determines the presentstrategic level of the organization’s enterprise architecturematurity. The next step is the assessment of the competencies of theorganization. The budget processes and mechanism used in strategicand business planning should be identified and redefined. The fourthstep is to gain approval from the IT executives and business expertsso as to achieve a detailed plan.
AConsistent Strategic Improvement solution enables the organizationovercome business problems facing the organization. It will improveaccess to organizational information through the use of singlesign-on and regulate access to organizational fields, values, anddata. Additionally, it will put controls on the access to user’sdisplay system processes and screens. Authorized users are the onlyones who will have access to the data and methods(Lankhorst, 2013).An example of this is seen in the Department of Defense’senterprise architecture model. Their security of IT infrastructurehas advanced from passwords to Common Access Cards and is furtherevolving into Biometrics. The Consistent Strategic Improvementsolution will track and segment access by the responsibilities androles of its users. Furthermore, security will be improved throughfraud prevention and security enhancement by ensuring verification ofcustomer ID(Blokdijk, 2014).It also eliminates duplication of consumer records through thecreation of a single record for every customer.
Inconclusion, enterprise architecture determines how an organization achieves itsobjectives timely, efficiently, and effectively. It improves decisionmaking hence eases an organization’s adjustment to the changingmarket. A ConsistentStrategic Improvement solutionis used by organizations to overcome business problems in theorganization. Enterprisearchitecture programfollows various phases that must be followed in the development of anew ConsistentStrategic Improvement solutionby Departmentof Motor Vehiclesto achieve the objectives of the organization.
