Isthe article in a juried (refereed) publication? Justify your answer.
Thearticle is referred because it is written by authors who have enoughknowledge of the topic that is being discussed and before being putin the journal, it has been review by other experts.
Critiquethe review of literature (relevant, current, unbiased, etc.). Justifyyour answer. The literature review in the article is appropriate because thereferences that have been made all apply to the topic beingdiscussed. The review is not so current because it uses work that hasbeen done more than ten years ago. It is unbiased because theviewpoint of the authors is at a neutral level. It focuses on boththe experts and the patients sides.
Whatis the explicit or implicit research problem statement? (If implicit, write one from the information in article).
Theexplicit research problem is that despite patients who suffer fromthe coronary heart disease getting relief through coronaryangioplasty, they have after surgery experiences, which may bepositive or negative.
Howdid authors show this study has scientific merit (i.e. deficiency inthe literature, gap in the literature, little previous research, study conducted in new population, etc.)? Thestudy has reviewed enough literature because it has used evidencefrom more than one. The literature has however tried to address thegaps in the research, and the study is conducted in a new populationof patients who have undergone coronary angioplasty in Iran. Thearticle has evidence of enough research that is previously done.
Whatis the explicit or implicit research purpose statement? (If implicit, write one from the information in article using scripts provided inlectures).
Theresearch`s purpose statement is to identify the challenges be itpositive or negative, that coronary angioplasty patients experiencepost surgery.
Whatis/are the explicit or implicit research question(s)/hypothesis? (Ifimplicit, write one from the information in article using scriptsprovided in lectures).
Theresearch question is explicit and aims at finding out thepost-surgery experiences of the patients for an appropriate caresystem after surgery.
Methods/Methodology(Justify your response to each sub question)
WhatMethodology was used in this study?
Theresearch used qualitative methodology because the data relied solelyon the information given by the participants and not the number ofresponses given.
WhichResearch Design did the study apply?
Theresearch design used was a survey because a given number of patientswere selected and the study conducted on them.
WhatResearch Methods (sampling, data collection, data analysis) were usedin this study?Datacollection was by use of interviews through interviews that wereconducted using a telephone conversation. It was sampled throughtables that showed different characteristics in the patients andtheir levels. It was analyzed through the professional consultationwhere the researchers shared the information with experts in thefield and sort out their opinion for the best health care plan forthe patients.
Wasthis section detailed enough so another researcher could replicatethe study? Thesection had sufficient detail because it gave a systematicexplanation of how the data was collected, the different responsesthat were given, and how the data was analyzed.
Results(Justify your response to each sub question)
Wasthe data presented clearly (tables, charts, graphs, etc.)?
Thedata was clearly presented. The authors gave a presentation of theresults in a table form, which showed the patient characteristic andthe level of this nature.
Werethe data analysis methods clearly identified?
Dataanalysis methods were not clearly defined and mentioned because theresearch only talked of discussing the information with other expertsin the field.
Conclusions/Discussion(Justify your response to each sub question)
Whatwas the interpretation of the data? Dataanalysis indicated that these patients viewed the surgery as amilestone and a second chance is given in life. They also had toexert caution in how they lived because of the surgery they had gonethrough in their hearts. The patients also had to live withpsychological distress like anxiety because of the fear of theunknown.
Howdid the conclusion/discussion align with thepurpose/question/hypothesis?
Thestudy was able to identify the experiences that the patient wentthrough post surgery and made a contribution to the appropriate planfor treatment and care.
Whatare the stated limitations of the study?
Thestudy was only limited to a given population and the telephoneinterviews. It was also restricted to the patients who have undergonecoronary angioplasty.
Whatare the suggestions for further research?
Thestudy suggested further research on the experiences of patients whohave suffered the coronary angioplasty in blood vessels.
Reflecton the entire article (Justify your response to each sub question)
Whatis, for you, most important? The most important issue for me was theidentification of experiences of these patients and the appropriatecare plan for them.
Whatdo you find most interesting? Themost interesting part is the fact that patients can undergocorrective surgery to help mend their hearts.
Explainthe strengths and the weaknesses of the article.
Theitem was able to identify this issue that had not been dealt withbefore the article also gives suggestions for areas that needfurther research. On the contrast, presentation of data was notenough the methodology was also not explicitly stated in some areas.
Howwill this study contribute to the literature?
Thestudy will help provide information on the patient experiences andact as a point of reference for future research.
